Computer Security Settings

Please upload screenshots that demonstrate that your workstation (Laptop, Mac, PC) follows required security practices. Click on the title of each of the policies below for instructions on how to find the relevant setting and take a screenshot.

Show that you have full-disk encryption enabled

For Windows


 

For Mac

Mac’s disk encryption is called FileVault. FileVault is available in OS X Lion or later. Read more about enabling / managing FileVault here.

  1. Choose Apple menu () > System Preferences, then click Security & Privacy.
  2. Click the FileVault tab.
  3. Click Locked, then enter an administrator name and password.
  4. Click Turn On FileVault if it is not already. You may have to provide some information, restart, and then return here. If you see a message that FileVault is already turned on, continue.
  5. Take a screenshot of the FileVault window.

How to take a screenshot on your Mac

  1. To take a screenshot, press and hold these three keys together: Shift, Command, and 3.
  2. If you see a thumbnail in the corner of your screen, click it to edit the screenshot. Or wait for the screenshot to save to your desktop.
Show that your screen is set to auto-lock after a period of inactivity

For Windows


 

For Mac

  1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
  2. Click Desktop & Screen Saver.
  3. Click Screen Saver, and then use the slider to choose 15 minutes (or less).
  4. Click Show All to go back to the main System Preferences window.
  5. Click Security, and then click Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver.
  6. Take a screenshot of the System Preferences window.

How to take a screenshot on your Mac

  1. To take a screenshot, press and hold these three keys together: Shift, Command, and 3.
  2. If you see a thumbnail in the corner of your screen, click it to edit the screenshot. Or wait for the screenshot to save to your desktop.
If you are connected to a wireless network, show the encryption type being used by the network

For Windows


 

For Mac

  1. Hold down the Option key and click the Wi-Fi icon menu bar item. The option-click trick reveals additional details about wireless networks.
  2. The connected wireless network will show grey text under the network name, within this list of details is also the security details of the encryption type used. See the screenshot below for reference:

  3. With this menu open and showing the grey text details, take a screenshot.
